Love Thyself

Jesus said," Love God with all your heart, and soul, and love thy neighbor, as thyself." With our world in such sad shape, it is obvious, that we all are feeling pretty crappy about ourselves.
Think about it, it should be natural to love yourself, you fight to stay alive everyday; but how many of us really do love ourselves, in the way that Jesus meant?
Everyone has some issues with them self. Let's face it, no one is perfect.
I believe our world is a high school of learning for soul, and that is why we are here, because we aren't perfect!
You will never be closer to God than you are right now.
MIKE'S LAW: YOU ARE AS CLOSE, OR AS FAR FROM GOD AS YOU CHOOSE TO BE, THE DISTANCE YOU FEEL FROM GOD IS IN DIRECT PROPORTION TO HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT YOURSELF.
We have all been taught to feel guilty whenever we screw up. This is a control factor taught by the religions.
Life is nothing more than one huge trial and error experiment. We learn by making mistakes.
By feeling guilty, or ashamed, the natural response is to try and hide from God because we feel unworthy, just as Adam and Eve did after the fall.
We create our own separation from God. To know God you have to let him see you. Of course, we never hide from God, but we shut him out. We need to learn to take responsibility for our actions, but to drop all of the guilt.
Accept yourself, and know inwardly that God does love you...more than you love yourself.
Now love thy self.

The Power Is Love

The age-old battle for Man to figure out is, "Do I try to acquire power, or do I follow the path of love?"

A quick look through our past shows that a vast majority of people are in the business of getting power. The pitiful few that have sought love are the martyrs that we all are so familiar with. Even in our so-called "enlightened times" the occultists, the religions, the political systems -- most everybody -- is very interested in power.

Power is, as they say, intoxicating. It must be some some really good shit, considering the millions of people murdered for the sake of power.

MIKE'S LAW: "The final lesson to be learned is love."

Power is for the ego, or the "small self". The ego has a need to have attention paid to it. The more attention paid to an ego, the greater its feelings of self-importance. The more self-importance an ego feels, the farther that ego places itself from others. This is the breeding ground for all kinds of atrocities.

When one seeks love over power, the ego shrinks. One starts to relate to others -- to care. One starts to think about something other than the small self. This is a major step in one's spiritual evolution.

Power is always held closely, lest you lose it, but to be had, one has to give love.

That's the great thing about love. You can give away all you want, and you will never run out. The more love you give, the more you receive; and there is nothing more intoxicating than love.

That's the power of love.

Does Anybody REALLY Own Sunglasses?

I've got this thing for sunglasses, I like them. If I could afford it I would have a closet full of them like Imelida Marcos had shoes. Living here in south Fla. they also have a purpose besides looking cool.

There is this one problem though, I keep losing the damn things! My theory is that no one really really owns a pair of sunglasses, they just pass them around. Hey, cool, I found a new pair of sunglasses, that look really cool on me! I'm gonna love the way I look in them...for about two weeks. Then someone else will get to look cool in them for the next two weeks. Oh well that's the way the sunglasses waltz goes.

MIKE'S LAW: "The length of time you will own a pair of sunglasses is in reverse proportion to the cost of the glasses."

I once bought a pair of killer loop sunglasses for $120.00, which I had for two whole days before I used them to block an overhead smash in a game of volley ball. On the bright side, I did block the shot for a point.

Now a days I work for a major airline, and I find a pair of sunglasses about every 2, or 3 weeks. Which is perfectly timed to correspond with my losing the last pair I found. If anyone out there has figured out a way NOT to lose their sunglasses, please clue me in.

Let's Talk About Welfare

Public assistance, or welfare, came into being in our country back in the 1940's. It was a very necessary step at the time because there simply weren't enough jobs available for the population of black men. Whites owned almost all factories, and business, and there were no equal employment laws. This was supposed to be a short term proposal.

That was seventy years ago. We are entering the fourth generation of welfare families. There is a reason for this, FREE MONEY! Why do anything when you are getting free money?

However, there is a catch, when you get free money long enough; you expect to keep getting free money.

MIKE'S LAW: Whenever someone receives "free money", that person will NOT respect the money, or the giver. He also will not respect himself.

The problem with our inner cities is that they are full of people, who don't respect themselves, or anyone else. It is bred on the free money syndrome.

I'm not saying anyone should starve, but every able bodied person should do something to earn that money. When people earn their money, they respect not only the money they earned, but they respect themselves for earning it. Hospitals are short staffed; our cities are filthy, roads, bridges, and our infrastructure are crumbling; find jobs for these people!

My sincere hope is that President Obama, will bring some jobs back from overseas, and start new programs to help our people.

(Good luck on that.)

Everybody's Talking

Craig Wilson, of USAToday, wrote in his weekly column "The Final Word", today about the proliferation of cell phones. It was a cute article, and since we are about the same age, and from the same hometown(Rochester,NY), I related well to him. One problem, Craig, you never really talked about the main point. What the hell is everybody talking about?

Now I admit, that I am somewhat older, than the average cell phone user; but I can't imagine that they could find so much to talk about. It is mind numbing. I have 700 minutes, on my cell phone. I never use them all. I think that cell phones are great, they certainly make life a lot easier, but unless you're in sales, most people are just talking too much. Now a days it is a rarity to pass another motortist, and not see them talking or even texting (gasp! I've seen it!) while they are supposedly driving.

MIKE'S LAW: 1) If you have nothing to say, shut up. 2) If you don't know what you are talking about, shut up.

I live by both of those laws, and I wish more people would. It's not just cell phones, there are certainly enough people out there, that don't need them. You know as soon as they walk in the room, because they come in yapping away, and don't stop until they leave. They pontificate about anything and everything as if they wrote the encyclopedia. I recognize that these people just love to hear themselves talk. If you are one of these people, please refer to law #2.

We have one at work. He really isn't a bad guy, but boy does he love to hear himself talk. You know when he's coming in the breakroom, because you can hear him coming down the hall. And boy does he know it all! Like I said, he really isn't a bad guy, but I wish he were, because I really want to hate him.

The way I see it, there's a lot of people talking, but they aren't saying much.

You will never be closer to God than you are right now.
